WASHINGTON, DC: ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES (OAS) — The Consultative Committee of the Inter-American Convention Against Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives and Other Related Materials (CIFTA) today established a working group to finalise regional standards on the marking and recordkeeping of firearms in the OAS area.   The Committee, comprising OAS Member States, took the decision after the CIFTA Technical Secretariat presented it with draft OAS standards on marking and recordkeeping that draw upon guidance provided by ISACS module 05.30.  The OAS developed its draft standards in collaboration with the ISACS Inter-Agency Support Unit.  The newly-established Working Group is expected to complete the standards in time for the 15th meeting of the CIFTA Consultative Committee in early 2014.
