ISACS can assist in preventing maritime small arms trafficking in the Caribbean

The United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC) convened thirteen English-speaking Carribean States in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, on June 21-22 to discuss how best to strengthen national capacities and promote regional cooperation to combat sea-borne illicit trafficking in SALW, ammunition and explosives.

Participants suggested that that ISACS — in particular its module on Border controls and law enforcement cooperation — and various CARICOM cooperation mechanisms could serve as the backdrop for the development of regional standard operating procedures.
