NEW YORK, U.S.A. — On the opening day of the 5th Biennial Meeting of States to consider implementation of the UN Programme of Action against the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons, the ISACS Assessment Tool was made available for download free of charge from the ISACS website.

The Assessment Tool — developed by the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) — facilitates the application of ISACS in the design, monitoring and evaluation of small arms control policies, programmes and practices.

It allows users (governments, UN entitites, regional organisations, training institutes, etc.) to assess how existing policies, programmes and practices align with international standards and to identify priority areas in need of strengthening.
